Cables

Cable Inventory

The user can create cables, copper or fiber, by entering a cable ID, cable name, wire center/exchange, cable type, cable use and cable size. Cable type indicates the general category of cable, such as copper or fiber, while cable use refers to what application the particular cable is being for. Typical uses include: trunking, feeder, and distribution, etc. Optical fiber installation test results can be appended to the fiber cable for future reference. The user can add, edit, and delete cables.

Cable Pair/Optical Fiber Inventory

The system provides for the creation, identification and status of cable pairs and optical fibers. The user enters a wire center/exchange name, cable name, a starting pair/fiber number, ending pair/fiber number and a beginning binding post number to create the pair/fiber range for a cable. (In the case of fiber cables, a binding post will not be created.) The cable pair/fiber status’s are:

  • Vacant
  • Working
  • Defective
  • Cut Dead
  • Reserved
  • Pending

While vacant, a pair can have an idle status that tells the system how to handle the pair for future assignments. Those pair idle status values are:

  • Dedicated
  • Wire Through
  • Left in Place

The default status for newly created pairs is vacant and the default idle-status is Left-in-Place. The user can add, edit, or delete cable pairs/fibers.
